In due course, Draupadi also, from her five husbands begets five sons. They were Prtivindhya by Yudhishtira, Sutasoma by Bhima, Srutakarma by Arjuna, Satanika by Nakula and Srutasena by Sahadeva. Each of them were born at the interval of one year apart.

Arjuna and Subhadra soon have a baby boy named Abhimanyu, who is the first born among the children of the five Pandavas. Krishna who is staying with the Pandavas at Khandavaprastha during that time performs the initiation rites of his young nephew. Th baby is dotted on by everybody.

At the end of the 1 year sojourn in the forest, Arjuna and Subhadra get back to Khandavaprastha. When Arjuna goes to meet Draupadi, she throws a tantrum, because of Arjuna’s new alliance with Subhadra. “Go where that cow-girl woman is Arjuna”, she cries and keeps on yapping how it is the first tied knot that has come loose. Arjuna has arranged to introduce Subhadra to Draupadi. Subhadra is wearing an expensive red silk dress at that time. Arjuna quickly makes her change into the dress of a cow-girl. When she finally meets Draupadi, on Arjuna’s advice, Subhadra takes upon a subservient attitude. Because of these concilliatory measures Draupadi is appeased.

Angered at Arjuna’s abduction of Subhadra, all the the Bhojas, Andhakas and Vrishnis (subclans of the Yadava clan), yoke their chariots and organize a posse after Arjuna. Krishna then pacifies the revolting people, arguing that what Arjuna have done is in line with the barronial law. “To have a relation with Arjuna is an honor”. “Let us not go after him. Let us welcome the couple back”. The Yadavas accept Krishna’s arguments, disband the posse and send messengers to welcome Arjuna back.

One day during his stay in Dwaraka, Arjuna sees Subhadra, Krishna’s sister and desires her. He confides his desire to his bosom friend Krishna. Krishna warns that she is destined to get married by bridegroom choice. If Arjuna really wants her, Arjuna could try abducting Subhadra, since vedic baronial law allows that. Krishna would give the appropriate assistance. One day, while Subhadra is returning from a mountain shrine, Arjuna forcefully put her in his chariot and drives on.

While staying at Dwaraka, Arjuna and Krishna becomes close friends.

Towards the last leg of his 12 month sojourn in the forest, Arjuna travels west to Dwaraka, which was the abode of Krishna and his Yadava tribe. The abduction of Subhadra by Arjuna takes place while Arjuna is a guest at Dwaraka.

But Arjuna’s most famous escapade is his abduction of Subhadra, the sister of Krishna, with some abetting from Krishna.

Arjuna travels widely during this period. But, wherever he goes, he also has the habit of marrying the local princess.

Near the gates of river Ganges, Arjuna marries Ulupi, the daughter of king Kauravya of the Nagas. Then he travels south, crossing Kalinga, and at the kingdom of Manalura, he marries Chitrangada, the daughter of king Chitravahana.

The peripatetic Arjuna, seizes this opportunity and offers to spend an year in the forest in penance. Yudhishtira appeals to him not to go. But Arjuna wants to get away.

So taking his bow, arrow and quiver, he is on his way.
