In fact, in a very melodramatic twist, Karna’s real mother was indeed Kunti, the mother of the Pandavas. Karna was an illegitimate child born to her, before her marriage to prince Pandu, of Hastinapura.
Thus Karna, who now is in the Kaurava camp, was in fact, a step brother of the Pandavas.
